ARCRITZ Load Break Tool

ARCRITZ Load Break Tool up to 25 kV

Open fuse cutouts and disconnect switches under load, from the ground.

The ARCRITZ load break tool (load opening device) operates fuse cutouts and knife-blade disconnect switches on energized overhead distribution lines up to 25 kV phase-to-ground. It interrupts up to 600 A through an internal arc extinguishing chamber and is operated from the ground with an insulated hot stick.

Opening a switch under load without a dedicated device produces an electric arc, the most serious risk of the maneuver. ARCRITZ extinguishes the arc in an internal chamber and delivers a standardized operation, cycle after cycle.

Manufactured in Brazil by Ritz Ferramentas. Tested as a class E1 device under IEC 62271-103.

Frequently Asked Questions

Description

How it works

The main body is a fiberglass tube that provides electrical insulation and mechanical strength for the maneuver. At opening, the internal chamber extinguishes the electric arc in a controlled way. A built-in cycle counter records every operation, so your team can track service life and schedule preventive maintenance by actual use, not by estimate.

Typical applications

  • Opening fuse cutouts on transformers and circuit sections.
  • Opening knife-blade disconnect switches on energized distribution networks.
  • Single-phase or three-phase overhead lines, in preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Resistive, strongly capacitive or strongly inductive circuits.

Benefits and differentials

  • Arc extinguishing: the internal chamber dissipates the arc at opening, the most critical point of a load break maneuver.
  • Fiberglass insulation: the body withstands 41 kV dry at industrial frequency.
  • Built-in cycle counter: tracks wear and sets the preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Operation from a distance: the insulated hot stick keeps the operator outside the hazard zone.
  • Severe environments: keeps operating in locations with high pollution and humidity

Tested performance

ARCRITZ is tested as a class E1 device under IEC 62271-103 (AC switches for rated voltages above 1 kV up to and including 52 kV) and undergoes mechanical cycling. Breaking tests cover real field scenarios:

  • Active current: 5 operations at 17.0 kV / 900 A.
  • Parallel transformer: 10 operations at 3.7 kV / 900 A.
  • Magnetizing current: 12 operations at 18.7 kV / 6 A.
  • Cable charging: 12 operations at 20.0 kV / 16 A.
  • Line charging: 12 operations at 20.0 kV / 1.5 A.
  • Capacitor bank: 12 operations at 22.0 kV / 53 A.

Mechanical tests: static load of 227 kg and 2,000 operating cycles without load.

Warranty and maintenance

Warranty of 2 years or 1,000 operating cycles, whichever comes first. A complete preventive review is mandatory every 500 cycles, performed by Ritz or an authorized company. The device can ship with up to 20 cycles on the counter from factory functional and quality tests, which does not count as prior use.
