During opening, the internal chamber extinguishes the arc in a controlled manner. Without a suitable load break device, opening a switch under load generates an electrical arc, which is the most serious hazard associated with this operation.

The body is made of a fiberglass tube, which provides electrical insulation and mechanical strength for operation. Its dry withstand voltage at power frequency is 41 kV.

The integrated cycle counter records each operation, allowing the maintenance team to monitor wear and schedule servicing based on actual use rather than estimates. The equipment may leave the factory with up to 20 cycles already recorded as a result of functional and quality tests, which is not considered prior use.

The tests cover real-world field conditions: active current (5 operations at 17.0 kV and 900 A), parallel transformer switching (10 operations at 3.7 kV and 900 A), magnetizing current (12 operations at 18.7 kV and 6 A), no-load cable switching (12 operations at 20.0 kV and 16 A), no-load line switching (12 operations at 20.0 kV and 1.5 A), and capacitor bank switching (12 operations at 22.0 kV and 53 A).
