Instrument for Testing Insulators – Insulometer

Instrument for Testing Insulators – Insulometer

Portable device that allows you to quickly locate a faulty insulator in the chain of insulators in energized distribution and transmission circuits up to 500 kV.
Approx. weight: 1.13 kg (2.49 lb)

Its working principle is based on measuring the potential difference across the insulator disk under test. A high-impedance galvanometer indicates this potential difference, allowing comparisons to be made with other insulator disks in the same system. Thus, the faulty insulator will have a reading considerably lower than the others.

It can be used to evaluate pin insulators, single-piece insulators, multi-part pin insulators and disk insulators.

It is made of fiberglass tubes and housing, with quick, multi-angle adjustment of the contact tips. The isolometer can be used to test any size of insulator, as well as allowing other adjustments for better visualization by the electrician.

On the back of the instrument housing is a 3-position switch that varies the sensitivity of the meter to allow better selection of the pointer deflection.
